Being one of the branches of Indian military, the air force has been the most coveted part, when it comes for the air force recruitment. The enthusiasm for joining the Air Force is very strong among the Indian citizens as it infuses a sense of patriotism and cavalry among them. It is not a surprise that there are presently 127,200 active people in the organisation.

Since the time of Indian independence, this branch of Indian defence system and Indian Armed Forces has played a crucial role in the 4 wars that have happened and has taken part in multitude of civilian activities, mostly during the time of natural calamities in different parts of the country. There are different positions and portfolios into which the people are recruited, so that the work profile of each post is charted out and the recruitment is done accordingly. Broadly speaking, the various posts are divided among those recruits who are involved in direct warfare and the other group which are involved in various technical aspects like the civilians. Officer posts can be attained by entering at four different levels. After passing high school and within the age of 16-19 years can enter at intermediate level. Those who have passed college graduation and are within 18-28 years can enter through the graduate level. Engineers can also apply after getting their degrees in engineering subjects. For the flying division and ground duty branch, the age limit is 23 years while for technical Air Force recruitment, 28 years is the limit. Even after post graduation, people can apply for the technical positions. These are the different positions of entry, where the candidates can be finalised and commissioned as officers.

Airman is the job where the recruits are to look after the air and ground operations. They will be responsible for the system operations and other technical and non technical jobs, mostly in the form of assistants. They are recruited through the All India Recruitment Rallies in different centres known as Central Airmen Selection Board, who are responsible for the airmen selection in Air Force recruitment. These posts, as well as those of the officers require physical fitness test, knowledge of English and then the recruits are required to go for a training period.

Another group of recruits are the civilians or the orderlies, who work as the assistants for those who are recruited as officers.

To train and acclimatise the recruits in different posts, especially the officers, the Indian armed forces has some training centres and colleges such as Sainik Schools, Military schools, Rashtriya Indian Military College, National Defence Academy, National Defence College, and College of Defence Management. The medical corps is trained in the Armed Forces Medical College or AFMC in Pune.

Each post that is offered to the citizens of India, after the due fulfilment of eligibility criteria, is a pride for the recruit and his or her family member. The Air Force recruitment has become a prestigious process for millions of people of India who want to serve their country.
